English language education is now a reality of India. Most middle class children in metro cities in India, undertake education in English. For these children, their own mother tongue is introduced as a second language. Although this is good from point of making a living, it has a danger of leading to a serious cultural alienation. ‘Culture’ consumed by these children, at home, in schools and elsewhere is increasingly of digital origin. Movies contribute to significant chunk of this consumption. Movies for children are almost synonymous with animation, especially considering the rise in large number of TV channels targeted at this age group. These channels show content which is essentially American, Japanese, Korean, etc and which has no relevance to the cultural bearings of the child. Indian children are hence growing up in an environment which is essentially a digital cultural outpost of the West.
Considering the above to be our primary motivation, we would like to create India centric content, cultural in nature and essentially in English. The children of Indians settled abroad would be in line for consumption of this kind. Finally, this would be of significance to international audience who would like to get a taste of our culture via films created by main-stream Indians.
